Colombia’s national soccer team could not get a win past Brazil over the weekend, but their biggest supporter is winning – on YouTube that is.
Shakira’s World Cup song “La, La, La (Brazil 2014)” surpassed the 200 million mark on the video-sharing site – 30 million more views than Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez’s “We Are One (Ole Ola)” anthem.
The Colombian singer shared the news on her Facebook page: “The La La La (Brazil 2014) video just went past 200 MILLION views! Incredible! Thank you guys!!”
The music video – which features several World Cup players like Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Shak’s boyfriend Gerard Pique and their son Milan – is a long way away from reaching the number of views her 2010 World Cup anthem “Waka Waka” which has more than 700 million views (but also has 4-year advantage.)
The song’s growing popularity is probably why FIFA recently announced that Shakira would be performing at the tournament’s closing ceremony on Sunday.
She will be joined on stage with hip hop star Wyclef Jean, guitarist Carlos Santana and Alexandre, who will sing “Dar Um Jeito,” the tournament’s main theme song.
Shakira has been an avid follower of the World Cup, supporting Colombia’s team throughout the tournament.
After Saturday’s loss against Brazil she tweeted in Spanish: “I have tears in my eyes and pride in my heart, for my country, for their talent and for the best showing by Colombia in the history of the World Cup.”
