Winona Ryder Says Mel Gibson a Homophobe, Anti-Semite

Winona Ryder was once of Hollywood's most in-demand stars.

"Black Swan" star Winona Ryder remembers fellow Hollywood actor Mel Gibson as being "anti-Semitic and homophobic" long before his taped racist rants were broadcast across the world, the New York Post reported Thursday.

"Fifteen years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties, and he was really drunk," Ryder told the January issue of GQ. "I was with my friend, who's gay. [Gibson] made a really horrible gay joke. And somehow it came up that I was Jewish. He said something about 'oven dodgers,' but I didn't get it. I'd never heard that before. It was just this weird, weird moment. I was like, 'He's anti-Semitic and he's homophobic.' No one believed me."

A Gibson rep did not respond to a request for comment.

Ryder, who plays a washed-up ballerina in Darren Aronofsky's psycho-thriller "Black Swan," said the role reflected a common dynamic among today's actresses.

"I thought it was a cool parallel," Ryder told the magazine. "Being replaced by the young thing. I know that definitely happens in Hollywood ... I'm at that age I've been warned my whole life about."
