<b>The Garden State</b> Think just cause you watch "Jersey Shore" you know what people from New Jersey are really like? Well, think again! Most of the tanned bodies on the show aren't even from the Garden State. From left to right, "The Situation" is from Staten Island, JWoww is from upstate New York, Snooki was born in Santiago Chile and Pauly D is from Rhode Island.  The only one who is actually from Jersey is Sammi Sweetheart (not pictured here). <b>Meryl Streep</b> The Oscar winning actress was born in Summit, New Jersey in 1949. She was raised in Bernardsville and went on to study drama at Vassar College. But that wasn't enough for the over achiever, she continued her studies at Yale School of Drama where she earned a Masters of Fine Arts. <b>John Travolta</b> The "Grease" star is the youngest of six children born and raised in Englewood, NJ. <b>Shaquille O'Neal</b> It's interesting that basketball star Shaquille O'Neal has never played for the New Jersey Nets, considering that's his home team.  He started his basketball career with Orlando Magic, even though he was born in Newark, NJ. <b>Kelly Ripa</b> Kelly often talks about her New Jersey roots on "Live With Regis and Kelly." She was born in Stratford and was discovered while acting in a high school performance of "The Ugly Duckling." Pretty ironic considering she's one of the hottest TV hosts around. <b>Bon Jovi</b> The enduring rock band all hail from Sayreville, New Jersey and have become state icons. Their hit "Livin on a Prayer" is a staple at most state bars.

<b>Christina Ricci</b> The "Now and Then" and "Black Snake Moan" star was born in Santa Monica, California, but was raised in Montclair, New Jersey. A local newspaper critic discovered the star at the age of eight in a school play, which led to commercials and work in films.

<b>Andrew and Elizabeth Shue</b> The brother and sister acting duo were raised in Maplewood, New Jersey, where their father even ran for local congress.   (AP2007)

<b>Bruce Springsteen</b> "The Boss" is arguably the state's biggest celebrity, having built a career penning song after song about his home state. Springsteen was born in Long Branch and spent most of his childhood in the town of Freehold.
