Fox is dipping into the big-screen well for a TV version of the 1980 John Travolta movie “Urban Cowboy.”
The pilot for the series will be written and directed by Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow”), according to reports.
Travolta was on a hot streak (“Saturday Night Fever,” “Grease”) when he starred in “Urban Cowboy” as Bud Davis, an oil worker who moves to Houston and embarks on a tempestuous love affair with Sissy (Debra Winger).

The movie was famous for its nightclub scenes shot in Gilley’s — a honky tonk bar — which included line dancing and the bar’s fierce mechanical bull, which Bud tries to conquer.
The TV show will follow Bud and Sissy as they fall in love and start a life together and, like the movie, will be executive-produced by Robert Evans, according to Variety.
There’s no cast yet. And no word on John Travolta.
