Tim McGraw Shows Off Abs, Reveals Weight Loss Secrets
How does a country singer celebrate a 40-pound weight loss? By showing off his six pack, of course. PHOTOS: Miranda Lambert's Amazing Body Transformation While everyone else was chugging green beer, or, in the case of one Duchess, sipping on sherry for St. Patrick’s Day, country star Tim McGraw engaged in jet-pack flying instead — and he has the photo to prove it. The Grammy Award-winning singer, who is married to fellow artist Faith Hill, tweeted the photo Monday with the caption, “Here’s how I’m spending St. Patrick’s Day.” And while the water sport should have been the main topic of discussion, fans were instead getting hot and bothered by his outrageously sculpted stomach. And how did the 46-year-old get in Herculean shape? According to McGraw, he had to give up on one major bad habit. READ: Christina Aguilera Dishes on Weight Loss Secret “I drank a lot from my point of view and I needed to stop,” explains McGraw to People Magazine. “I felt quitting was something I needed to do. I didn’t feel I had any moral high ground with my kids in the long run.” To prepare for a strenuous tour and still have enough energy to spend time with his family, McGraw traded whiskey for weight training with the help of marital arts expert and stuntman Roger Yuan. “We work with pulleys, bars, and do core training, strength and balanced movements to build up the muscles between the ribs and connective tissues,” says Yuan to the publication. “I have trained a lot of people and many are hard workers. But Tim is another animal. I have to rein him in and have to tell him, ‘You can’t do that much.’ There is no quitting him.” And while McGraw is dedicated to maintaining his slimmer, stronger physique, he hasn’t completely given up on all of his guilty pleasures. READ: LeAnn Rimes' Weight Loss Secret “I’ll eat a cheeseburger now and then, and I love sweet tea,” adds McGraw, who also reveals that he works out for up to four hours a day when not touring. “I like to eat. I like food. That is one of the reasons that I throw that extra hour of working out in.” Of course, McGraw’s weight loss plan does include stocking up on healthier grub to maximize his energy and keep him feeling fuller longer. People Magazine reports the artist’s diet involves plenty of fresh fruit, oatmeal, avocado, leaner protein, such as chicken and tuna, as well as hot water mixed with cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and manuka honey every morning. But even McGraw admits tossing aside delicious carbs is difficult. PHOTOS: Snooki 'Shore' Looks Slimmer, Huh? “I love cheeseburgers,” he tells Taste of Country. “A couple times a week, I have to have a cheeseburger or pizza. And I love bread. That’s the hardest thing to lay off of: bread and butter." Fortunately, McGraw sticks to healthier habits whenever possible, as well as being a devotee of CrossFit, which involves high-intensity movements to maximize calorie burning with various techniques. “That’s one of my favorite things to do, because I have a short attention span, so I can switch exercises really quickly if I get tired of one,” says McGraw. Another way he stays in shape? Playing one-on-one basketball with wife Faith Hill. Apparently for this couple, spending time together breaking a sweat has kept their lasting marriage intact.
