Then/Now: The Cast of 'Dynasty'

The Golden Globe-winning soap aired on ABC from 1981 to 1989. Aaron Spelling produced the prime time series about a wealthy oil family who “lived and sinned” in a forty-eight room Denver mansion.  The series was so popular that it spawned a clothing line (The Dynasty Collection),  novels, sheets and towels, perfume, dolls, and even carpeting and pantyhose! Blake Carrington (John Forsythe), wife Krystle (Linday Evans) and Blake’s ex, Alexis (Joan Collins), always wound up in salacious storylines, and as a result, viewers loved the saucy show. (ABC)

Famous for her role on 60s series “The Big Valley,” Evans portrayed Krystle Jennings, Blake’s younger wife. For her “Dynasty” role, Evans was nominated five times for the Golden Globe award, winning once. She was also nominated for an Emmy. (ABC)

After “Dynasty,” Evans acted in a few TV movies, such as “She’ll Take Romance” and “The Stepsister.” In 2006, she acted opposite “Dynasty” rival Joan Collins in the stage play “Legends” and also won the British reality series “Hell’s Kitchen.” Now 67, Evans lives in Washington state and reportedly owns a chain of fitness centers. Forsythe, who had voiced the eponymous Charlie in Aaron Spelling's "Charlie's Angels" and starred in 50s sitcom "Bachelor Father," was cast as powerful oil tycoon Blake Carrington.  Forsythe is the only cast member to appear in all 220 episodes of “Dynasty.” He was nominated for three Emmys and six Golden Globes (winning twice) for his role as Blake. After “Dynasty,” the actor starred in short-lived series “The Powers That Be” and reprised his role as Charlie in the movies “Charlie’s Angels” (2000) and “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” (2003).  Forsythe died on April 1, 2010 from complications from pneumonia after a long battle with cancer. He was 92.

After doing small films and softcore movie versions of her sister Jackie Collins’ novels, the British actress landed the role of Alexis Carrington. Blake’s ex wife Alexis was Krystle’s nemesis. (ABC)

After “Dynasty,” Collins took some time off to be with her family. In the 90s, she started appearing on TV series like “Roseanne” and “The Nanny” and starring in theatre productions on the West End and Broadway. In 2000 the actress appeared in the film “The Flintstones,” followed by “These Old Broads.” In 2002, she returned to soaps with a role on “Guiding Light.” BBC series like “Footballer’s Wives” followed.  Now 76, and on her fifth marriage, Collins is known as an actress, author, and columnist. She will appear in the German soap opera “Forbidden Love” beginning in April.  (AP)

After appearing on soaps like “Ryan’s Hope,” Thomson played Adam Carrington, Alexis and Blake’s long-lost son, who had been kidnapped as a baby. (ABC)

After “Dynasty,” Thomson continued with soaps, landing roles on “Santa Barbara,” “The Young and the Restless” and “Sunset Beach.” Thomson has appeared in seven Aaron Spelling series. In 2006, the actor appeared in the films “Poseidon” and Oscar-nominated “Little Miss Sunshine.”  Now 65, Thomson appeared on TV last year as a cast member on “Days of our Lives.”  (JPI)

Following “Dynasty,” Locklear did the film “The Return of the Swamp Thing” then went on to her seventh Aaron Spelling series: “Melrose Place.” Locklear then starred in the series “Spin City” from 1999-2002, and had a recurring role on “Scrubs.” Movies in recent years include “Uptown Girls,”  “The Pefect Man,” and TV movies “Women of a Certain Age” and “Flirting with Forty.”  In 2009 Locklear joined the cast of the updated “Melrose Place,” playing her original character, Amanda. But the blonde beauty's personal life has as dramatic as her roles. An alleged suicide attempt in 2008, followed by rehab, followed by a DUI arrest. Her divorces from Tommy Lee and Richie Sambora also garnered headlines. Now 48, Locklear has one daughter. (REUTERS)

In the '70s, Al worked at NYC's infamous Studio 54, but in the 80s, he played Blake’s gay son Steven – until his car accident in Indonesia. After Steven’s accident and subsequent plastic surgery, Jack Coleman came on to play the role.  Corley was also known as a singer in the 1980s, producing electro-pop hits like “Square Room.” (ABC)

Married with three children, Corley is now 53. After “Dynasty,” the actor appeared in a number of TV movies, like 1992’s “Hamburger Gift.”

Famous for playing Nancy Drew and for starring in films like “Poseidon Adventure,” Martin landed the role of Blake’s promiscuous daughter, Fallon. Until Emma Samms took over the role, appearing in the fifth season with amnesia. (ABC)

After “Dynasty,” Martin appeared in a PSA for dolphin conservation and got involved in environmental causes. She’s also written about her struggle with interstitial cystitis. In recent years the actress appeared on series “The L Word” and “That 70s Show.”  Now 57, Martin is thrice divorced and has one son. She reportedly owns a theatre company in Idaho.

A soap vet, Nader was Farnsworth “Dex” Dexter, Alexis’ third husband. (ABC)

The Tony-winning theater actress starred in series “Julia” before her role as Dominique Deveraux, Blake’s illegitimate half-sister. (ABC)

In 1989, Carroll received her third Emmy nomination for her work on the series “A Different World.” In 2006, she appeared on “Grey’s Anatomy.” Now 74, the actress  has busied herself on stage, and was cast in the USA series “White Collar” in 2008.  Carroll has been married four times and has one daughter. She’s a breast cancer activist and survivor, and will appear in the docudrama “1 a Minute” this year.  (AP)<br><br>

The daughter of HRH Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia, Oxenberg played Alexis’ secret daughter, Amanda Bedford. The actress played Princess Diana in two TV movies. (ABC)

Oxenberg left “Dynasty” in 1986 and went on to appear in various TV movies and the show “Acapulco H.E.A.T.”  Now 48, the actress is married to actor Casper Van Dien. She has three children, two fathered by Van Dien.  The couple starred in reality show “I Married a Princess” in 2005 as well as TV movie “The Collectors” and “The Omega Code” in 1999. In 2006 the couple co-starred in MyNetworkTV series “Watch Over Me.” (REUTERS)

James portrayed Fallon’s on-and-off love, Jeff Colby. His character inspired a spin-off series, “The Colbys.”  (ABC)

Soap vet James returned to the genre in 2003, playing Rick Decker on”As the World Turns.” In 2006, he was cast on “All My Children.” Two years later, he returned to “As the World Turns.”  Now 53, he actor has been married to former Miss Australia entrant Denise Coward since 1989, and they have two children.

Bellwood played unstable Claudia, imarried to geologist Matthew (Bo Hopkins). Claudia was written out of season three, but came back the next year. At the end of the sixth season, her character was killed off in a fire. (ABC)

The actress left the series in 1986 to become a full-time mother. She’s appeared in many TV movies, like “Choices of the Heart” and series, like “Life Goes On.”  Now 58, Bellwood has been married since 1984.
