Then/Now: The Cast of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'

Joss Whedon's supernatural drama aired on the WB from 1997 to 2003, luring between four to six million viewers per episode. The show's "Buffyverse" spawned a spin-off, 'Angel,' tie-ins like novels, comics, and video games, and legions of loyal fans. But where are these fresh-faced kids now? Click through to find out! A former child actress, Gellar’s first big TV role was on soap opera ‘All My Children.’ Her next gig: ‘Buffy.’ Heroine Buffy Summers is “The Slayer,” a popular blonde cheerleader chosen by fate to battle evil. Buffy became a cult icon. During the show, Gellar hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ three times, appeared on ‘Sex and the City,’ and built up a movie career, starring in teen films like ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer,’ ‘Scooby-Doo’ and ‘Cruel Intentions.’ (AP)

Now known as Sarah Michelle Prinze, the 32 year-old actress recently welcomed her first child with husband Freddie Prinze Jr. Since her stint as Buffy, Sarah has appeared in films like ‘The Grudge,’ ‘Southland Tales.’  The actress stars in ‘Veronika Decides to Die’ (at left), reportedly coming to theaters this spring.

Boreanaz played Angel, a vampire with a soul. Angel was Buffy’s love interest in the first three seasons. The character proved so popular that Boreanaz got his own series, ‘Angel.’ (Warner Bros.)

Now 40, Boreanaz currently stars in the series ‘Bones.’ On his second marriage, the actor has two children.  This past year, David was caught up in scandal when reports hit that he had cheated on his wife with Rachel Uchitel -- Yes, the same Rachel Uchitel who was involved with Tiger Woods! One of Buffy’s pals is wallflower Willow Rosenberg, who becomes a powerful witch. During the show’s run Hannigan appeared in the ‘American Pie’ movie series. Hannigan got her start as a child actor, and co-starred with 'Buffy' boyfriend Seth Green in 'My Stepmother Is an Alien.' (Warner Bros.)

In 2003, Hannigan married Alexis Denisof, who played Wesley Wyndam-Pryce on ‘Buffy’; they welcomed their first child last year. Now 35, Hannigan made her London stage debut in 2004 and was cast the following year in the role she’s still playing, Lily Aldrin in the hit series ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ In 2006 Hannigan starred in ‘Date Movie.’  (REUTERS)

After ‘Buffy,’ the actor went on to appear in series like ‘Kitchen Confidential,’ ‘American Dragon: Jake Long’ (voice work) and ‘Criminal Minds.’ Brendon, 38, was last seen in TV movie ‘A Golden Christmas.’  (REUTERS)

Before she played cheerleader Cordelia Chase, Carpenter was a pro! She was once San Diego Charger cheerleader. After three seasons on ‘Buffy,’ she left the series for the spin-off, ‘Angel.’ (Warner Bros.)

Now 39, the actress is divorced and has one child. Since ‘Buffy,’ she’s starred in spin-off ‘Angel,’ done a ‘Playboy’ spread (2004) and appeared in Lifetime movies and on shows like ‘Back to You’ and ‘Charmed.’ Carpenter starred in the TV movie ‘House of Bones’ (at left). Next up for Carpenter is the cast of Sylvester Stallone flick ‘The Expendables,’ slated for release this summer. (Sy Fy Channel)

Musicals and British television roles led to Head’s being cast as Buffy’s “Watcher,” Rupert Giles. (Warner Bros.)

After ‘Buffy,’ Head portrayed the British Prime Minister in BBC comedy show ‘Little Britain,’ appeared on ‘Dr. Who,’ and hosted ‘Horror Movies with Anthony Head,’ among other TV projects.  Movies include ‘Scoop’ and ‘Sweeney Todd.’ He released an album, ‘Music for Elevators,’ in 2002. Now 55, Head currently plays King Uther Pendragon in the British series ‘Merlin’ (at left). He has two daughters with his partner. British 'Buffy' fans will be glad to hear that the actor is set to do a reported ‘Buffy’ spin-off for the BBC entitled ‘Ripper.’

Green started acting as a child, and appeared in movies like ‘Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery’ and ‘My Stepmother Is an Alien’ (in which he played future ‘Buffy’ girlfriend Alyson Hannigan’s boyfriend!) before being cast as Daniel “Oz” Osbourne, a role he played until 2000.  During his ‘Buffy’ run, he starred in 90s teen classic ‘Can’t Hardly Wait,’ another Austin Powers movies (he did all three),  ‘Josie and the Pussycats,’ and ‘Idle Hands,’ among other films. Now 36, Green has appeared steadily in films and tv shows since his ‘Buffy’ years. Movies include ‘Party Monster,’ ‘The Italian Job,’ ‘Without a Paddle’and 2009’s ‘Old Dogs.’ TV series include ‘Angel,’ ‘That ‘70s Show,’ ‘Will & Grace,’ ‘Entourage,’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’  The actor has done voice work for series like ‘Family Guy’ (he voices Chris Griffin) and ‘Robot Chicken’ (for which he was nominated for four Emmy awards). Green appeared on WWE Monday Night Raw in 2009 as a guest host.  Look for him next year in ‘The Brazilian Job.’  (AP)

Now 24, Trachtenberg appeared in the CW series ‘Gossip Girl’ and is currently starring in the NBC drama ‘Mercy.’ She was in last year’s movie ’17 Again’ and can currently be seen in the buddy comedy ‘Cop Out.’  (AP)
