The Art Issue of 'W' features iconic supermodel Linda Evangelista, in a portfolio conceived by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. "She's a still actress," says Cattelan of his model. "At the end, she was so tuned-in that all she needed were a couple of words and she knew what we wanted." When it came to working with chickens for the shoot (at left), Evangelista needed no help. "I grew up in Canada, in an area where everyone had chickens," she explains to 'W.' "I mean, we weren't supposed to have chickens—it was a residential area, but we did. Also, when I went back to Italy with my parents where they grew up, there were chickens. So you can say I know a lot about chickens." The model wasn't the one exhibiting diva-like behavior - it was the poultry! "The chickens go to sleep at dusk—so they said, 'If you don't hurry up, we're going to lose them!' There are moments in your life when you say, How did I get here? The supermodel says of Maurizio Cattelan's artistic vision: "It's up for you to interpret." That sentiment holds true for the curious photo at left. "That's maybe the one that I was directed the most on." Evangelista says. And as for the meaning, she adds, "I'm still not quite sure, myself. There's many many messages."
