‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Cast Revealed, Guatemalan Actor Among Stars

May the force be with them -- the day that all “Star Wars” fans have been waiting for has arrived.

After months of rumors and speculation, director J.J. Abrams revealed the cast of the upcoming seventh episode of the galactic saga on Tuesday, posting a picture of the cast in its first table reading in London.

The black-and-white snapshot, posted on Starwars.com, shows a good mix of old and new faces.

As expected, original “Star Wars” trilogy stars Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (R2D2) will be in the movie. They will be joined by Guatemalan actor Oscar Isaac, who appeared in last year’s musical hit “Inside Llewyn Davis.”

Also joining the cast are actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis, who has played Gollum in the “Lord of the Rings” films.

Abrams said in the announcement, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII.’ It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

“Star Wars: Episode VII's”  screenplay was written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, with Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams and Bryan Burk producing. Critically-acclaimed composer John Williams is also returning to the movie.

The movie, which is expected to begin shooting in May, is scheduled to open in theaters worldwide in December 2015. Disney CEO Bob Iger has said it will be set 30 years after "Return of the Jedi."
