'Sopranos' Actor Tom Aldredge Dead at 83

Emmy-winning character actor Tom Aldredge, who appeared on stage and on television in “The Sopranos” has died at the age of 83, according to a report from the New York Times.

According to the Times, the cause of his death was lymphoma.

In recent years, Aldredge was best known for his role in “The Sopranos” as Carmela Soprano’s father.

He also appeared in the television shows “Damages” as Uncle Pete and “Ryan’s Hope.” He won a daytime Emmy for playing the role of Shakespeare in 1978’s “Henry Winkler Meets William Shakespeare.”

He also appeared in HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” playing the role of Steve Buscemi’s character Nucky Thompson’s father.

Aldredge also made a name for himself in several Broadway shows including “The Crucible,” “The Little Foxes”, the James Earl Jones revival of “The Iceman Cometh,” Steven Sondheim’s “Passion” and “Into the Woods.”
