Michael Vick, the NFL quarterback who made headlines five years ago for his role in a dog fighting ring, is now the proud owner of a new pooch.

Earlier this month, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback posted a picture of himself and his daughter on Twitter, and followers took notice of a box of Milk-Bone dog biscuits in the background. And though he quickly replaced the photo with a new, sans-biscuits picture, the media had already caught on. Vick has since released a statement through his publicist in which he said:

And while it may seem in poor taste for a man with Vick's specific criminal background to own a dog, he has already served 18 months in federal prison for his offenses, and, as per his 2007 sentence, has refrained from buying, selling or owning a canine throughout his entire probation period. In addition, Vick has since worked with the humane society to speak out against animal cruelty.
