For Phil Robertson, ducks always come first.
That’s why the “Duck Dynasty” star skipped out on meeting with Barbara Walters for her “Most Fascinating People of 2013” special, according to his wife Miss Kay, who sat down with Walters in his place.
“Tell him I have never been superseded by a duck before,” Walters quipped during the special, according to a transcript of the interview obtained by FOX411. The special will air Wednesday on ABC.
“He would rather shoot ducks than talk to us, yes?” Walters mused.
Miss Kay attempted to explain her husband’s decision to the famed interviewer.
“Oh yes. Between, uh, November and January, I told him I didn’t ever plan to die then, because, he may not be at my funeral,” she said with a laugh.
The Robertson family told Walters it isn’t the first time Phil has opted out of a big event in favor of hunting. Jessica, Jep’s wife, also spoke to Walters alongside her mother-in-law.
“Well, he missed the birth of Jase, Missy’s husband, because he was in the duck line and he wouldn’t leave…” she recalled. “And so yes, he missed the birth of his son.”
Kay jumped to her husband’s defense, explaining that he was “very young and immature” at that time.
She couldn’t make the same excuse for him this time around, and Walters concluded that maybe it was for the best that he wasn’t in attendance.
Laughing, she declared: “Good thing he didn’t show up today.”
ABC did not immediately return FOX411's request for a comment.
