Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly regrets ditching music career for reality TV show fame

Kelly and Jack shot to fame in the early 2000s on 'The Osbournes' reality show, while sister Aimee shied away from stardom

The next generation of Osbournes have come a long way since their reality TV days.

Jack and Kelly Osbourne both shot to fame as teenagers on the early 2000s MTV series "The Osbournes," which followed rock star Ozzy Osbourne at home with his young family.

Aimee Osbourne, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s oldest daughter, did not appear on the series.

Kelly briefly forayed into her own music career, starting in 2002, the same year the reality show started, with the album "Shut Up!"

She released her second and last album, "Sleeping in the Nothing," three years later.

The mother of one discussed her regrets over not continuing her music career on "The Osbournes" podcast last week.

Kelly said she misses music and has thought about what "my life would have been like if I didn’t stop" after being asked by her brother.

"It’s definitely a regret. Will I do anything about that regret? I don’t know," she said.

Kelly explained that she stopped making music because she was "doing so much TV. I was doing so much touring, and so much publicity, and so many interviews, and I wanted to go out and have fun."

She said if she had continued to pursue a music career, she is not sure how she would have found a work/life balance.

The 39-year-old eventually found a foothold as a host and judge on shows like "Fashion Police," "Project Runway," "America’s Next Top Model," "The Talk," "Australia’s Got Talent" and "RuPaul’s Drag Race."

Kelly also gave birth to her first child with Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson in 2022.

When announcing her pregnancy on social media, Kelly said she was "over the moon" about becoming a mom, adding "To say that I am happy does not quite cut it. I am ecstatic!"

She told People magazine recently that she plans to raise Sidney to be cosmopolitan in the same way she was raised.

"He'll get to travel the world, meet all sorts of people, get exposure to art and music and science and things he never would see if he wasn't traveling the world," she said.

On the podcast last week, she also revealed that her son finds his father’s Slipknot mask "hilarious" after a fan asked if the little boy was ever scared by it.

"It’s something that we introduced very slowly, and we waited until he was at least a year old, but as soon as he puts the mask on he finds it so hilarious and when he sees all his uncles backstage he loves it," Kelly said. "He’s not scared. But if the Easter Bunny or Mickey Mouse came up to him or the Grinch, he’d absolutely s--- himself."

Jack, like his sister, acted a bit in his teens, appearing in several episodes of the last season of the millennial teen drama "Dawson’s Creek."

"You know, James Van Der Beek became a friend later on because he has kids similar ages to mine," Jack said last week on the podcast of the actor who played Dawson on the show. "So, we used to hang out when they lived in L.A. Then him and his wife moved to Texas."

"It was just a fun experience," he added.

Jack said he also remembered going out and drinking one night with Joshua Jackson, who played Pacey on the hit show.

Both Jack and Kelly have been open about their struggles with addiction and efforts to get sober.

OZZY OSBOURNE'S SON JACK RECALLS NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE AFTER STEPPING IN RAT URINE

"I was suffering from a lot of depression in my early teens, and I was drinking a lot," Jack told Variety in 2021. "And then we did ‘The Osbournes’ and it gave me a rather large piggy bank, so my parents had less control, and then my mom got sick [Sharon is a colon cancer survivor]. But in these times, I would dip in and be like, ‘Things aren’t great.’’ And then I’d pull back — ‘Oh, things are OK.’ So it was this dance. Eventually, my mom received a phone call from a friend who was like, ‘This is bad.’"

He eventually went into rehab and has now been sober for 20 years.

"I found after the first year, you’re like, ‘Oh, OK. So I guess I’ve just got to do that over again,’" he told Variety of reaching one year of sobriety. "And then when you get to two years, you’re like, ‘All right, I guess I’ve got to do these two years over again to get to four years.’ The blessing and the curse, I think with sobriety, is that time goes by really quickly, in a very strange way. It feels like a flash, 17 years, because you’re counting time."

Kelly discussed her addiction issues on the podcast last week, saying that she covered up a lot of her insecurities around the time of the reality show by using drugs.

"I numbed myself with it," she told her family. "So, it kind of went hand in hand with that, with me, and I had to choose myself over all of that."

After "Dawson’s Creek," Jack had small acting parts on shows like "That ‘70s Show" and the 2004 Olsen twins comedy "New York Minute" before he began hosting his own shows such as "Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie."

In 2011, he also produced a documentary about his father called "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne" and did a series for the History Channel with his dad called "Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour."

He has found a niche hosting paranormal investigation shows like "Haunted Highway" for Syfy, as well as the Travel Channel's "Jack Osbourne’s Night of Terror," "Portals to Hell" and "The Osbournes Want to Believe." He also appeared on the reality show "Special Forces: World's Toughest Test" on Fox.

Kelly and Jack's sister Aimee, 40, mostly stays out of the spotlight, but she has a successful career as a singer and writer.

Sharon discussed Aimee, including why she did not want to appear on the MTV reality series, on a recent episode of Howard Stern’s Sirius XM show.

"She just didn’t want the attention," Sharon told Stern. "She was 18, it’s a tough age for a girl. She just didn’t want it."

She added, "She loves writing, she loves singing. But she doesn’t want to be a pop star. She wants to be a professional singer and writer. She's not looking for fame and power. She’s happy doing what she does."

Sharon revealed that Aimee also is not interested in taking part in "The Osbournes" podcast.

Aimee told The Independent in 2008 that she was worried being on "The Osbournes" reality show would give her the wrong image as she embarked on her career.

"I want to be a singer, and I felt if I’d stayed with ‘The Osbournes’ and done the whole thing I would have been typecast right away," she explained.

Aimee, who is the lead singer of the band ARO, released her first single "Raining Gold" in 2015.

That same year, she told Rolling Stone that the public’s perception of her began to change after she started promoting her music career.

"A lot of people have come up to me at different times and been like, ‘Oh, you’re nice. I thought you must’ve been, like, a hermit or, like, something is wrong with you,'" she laughed. "I’m like, ‘No, well, maybe, but it’s not that bad.’ It’s nice to feel like I’m not always being given side eyes like, ‘There’s the hidden one that doesn’t like to talk to anyone.'"

She also said that "Raining Gold" was about "how overwhelming and isolating it feels to be constantly misunderstood and the importance of choosing to break free from that and just believing in yourself."
