Nicole Kidman plays Grace Kelly in movie set for 2014 Oscar season

Hot off the 2013 Oscars in which two of the Weinstein Company’s films – "Django Unchained" and "Silver Linings Playbook" – took home Oscars, producer Harvey Weinstein unveiled his list of 2014 hopefuls on Friday night in Cannes.

Leading the pack, a biopic of Grace Kelly starring Cannes juror Nicole Kidman.

"I got to know Grace really well, researched her, and fell in love with her," Kidman said at Weinstein’s event before excusing herself to meet with the other seven jurors and Steven Spielberg about the Cannes films they have seen to date.

Weinstein joked that Kidman had to go decide "which of my films wins the Palme d’Or."

In addition to "Grace," Weinstein touted "August: Osage County," a movie about a dysfunctional family based on the book of the same name starring Meryl  Streep and Julia Roberts, and "The Butler," a movie about a White House butler who worked for seven presidents, starring Forrest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey.

"Last year was as good a year as we ever had at Miramax," Weinstein said, referring to the company he sold before restarting with Weinstein Company. With these three films, it is obvious he thinks this year could be even better.
