NBC Cancels Freshman Comedy 'Welcome To The Family'

Latino-heavy “Welcome to the Family” was not quite welcomed into American homes.
NBC announced this weekend that the freshman Thursday night comedy about a Latino family and an American family coming together after a young couple’s unplanned pregnancy would be immediately cancelled – after only three episodes.
“Welcome to the Family,” starring Ricardo Chavaria, Mike O’Malley and Justina Machado with a guest appearance by Eva Longoria last week, only averaged 2.7 million viewers during its three-week run. The show went off the air immediately with no more episodes airing.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}O’Malley took to Twitter following the announcement: “Welcome To The Family has been cancelled. Thanks to a great creative group and thanks for watching.”
His co-star Machado re-tweeted the message, adding “I second that” to the end.
O’Malley later posted a picture of the set. The caption reads: “Goodnight Welcome to the Family. Great time, too brief.”
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}NBC also said it would be canceling the show “Ironside,” starring Blair Underwood in an updated version of the Raymond Burr police drama. Unlike “Welcome to the Family,” the show will air one more episode Wednesday before falling off the schedule.
The departed “Welcome to the Family” will be replaced by “Parks and Recreation” episodes and specials, while a mix of shows including episodes of “Dateline” and “Saturday Night Live” holiday-themed specials will fill in for “Ironside,” NBC said.
