'Mob Wives' star Big Ang has stage 4 cancer

Big Ang’s family is turning to the public to help the “Mob Wives” fixture in her battle against Stage 4 lung and brain cancer.

The reality star’s sister, Janine Detore, set up a GoFundMe page on Feb. 2 in hopes of receiving $25,000 in donations to pay for cannabis oil, which helps treat pain. As of Wednesday morning, more than $12,000 had been raised.

Big Ang, whose real name is Angela Raiola, 55, had a tumor removed from her throat in April 2015. By the end of the year, the cancer had returned. In January, she underwent another round of chemotherapy.

“On January 26th the doctor reviewed her CT scan and informed us that the treatment was not working, and in fact one tumor grew larger and other tumors had no change,” Detore wrote. “We were advised that she should start immunotherapy the following week.”

According to the American Cancer Society, immunotherapy is a type of treatment that uses a patient’s own immune system to fight cancer.

Detore says Big Ang recently wound up in the emergency room with labored breathing and pain.

“So I suggested cannabis oil as an alternative,” Detore wrote. “This is why I am putting up this GoFundMe to try to help my sister to get this oil to help her at least be pain free. Angela cannot function to work anymore. I’m not sure that it will work but I’m praying.”

A request for comment from Detore was not immediately returned.
