Mariah Carey glitters at Billboard Music Awards after 17-year absence

It was like she never had been away.

Mariah Carey didn't let bronchitis stop her from taking the stage on Sunday to mark her return to the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM-Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas after a 17-year absence.

The songstress marked her return in the way she knows best, hitting all the right notes in a medley of her hit song “Vision of Love” – in honor of its 25th anniversary – and her new single, “Infinity.”

Carey, 45, was introduced with a short look back at her record-breaking career, which includes 18 songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart – more than any other solo artist in the chart’s 56-year history.

The mother of two donned a semi-sheer cleavage-baring gown, adorned with crystals and beaded detailing that glittered in the spotlight.

The last time Carey took to the Billboard Music Awards stage for a performance was in 1998, when she was honored for having had 13 No. 1 singles. She has won more than 30 Billboard awards over the years and been nominated nearly 90 times.

She is currently headlining a Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace, called “Mariah #1 to Infinity.” It kicked off earlier this month, although last week Carey canceled a show at the last minute, citing bronchitis.

After a few days of rest, Carey resumed performing on Saturday before appearing at the Billboard Music Awards. The songstress returned to her residency immediately afterward.

On Monday, Carey also released a sneak peek of her upcoming “Infinity” music video.
