New York – Luis Guzman is probably one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood, playing anything from the sidekick to the thug and everything in between with comedic grace.

In his newest role, “Puerto Ricans in Paris,” Guzman steps into the role of a NYPD detective who focuses on stopping the black market trade of designer handbags alongside partner Eddie, played by Edgar Garcia.

“We’re like family cause he’s married to my sister played by Rosie Perez,” Guzman told Fox News Latino about his and Garcia’s characters. “We know each other’s DNA pretty well. We know how to get under each other’s skin (and) we know how to have each other’s back and that made for a great buddy-kind of environment for us to work in.”

In the film – which is set primarily in Paris, but was also filmed in New York and Prague – the two are sent on an investigative adventure after a high-end handbag disappears. The two NYPD cops are thrown into a world of high fashion and Paris nightlife that they are not used to.

“It was great. One day (while filming) I told Eddie, ‘We’re doing a movie and look where we are at,’” Guzman said, to which Garcia added: “He told me that when we were in Prague. He said, ‘Can you believe it Eddie? We started with an idea and now look at us.’ I couldn’t believe it.”

He added: “It’s an awesome movie. It’s a movie that everyone can enjoy.”

From the beginning, the idea was to make a comedy that moves past the “Latino movie” demographic despite it being about two Puerto Ricans. They wanted it to be a movie that the world could see.

“I’ve done a lot and one of the things I’ve learned is that this is not Latin comedy. This is comedy,” Guzman said. “Even though the title of the movie is called ‘Puerto Ricans in Paris’ it’s not like we’re walking around saying all these Puerto Rican jokes or Puerto Rican slang.”

“Puerto Ricans in Paris” hits theaters on June 10.
