Lead Singer Of Tejano Group La Mafia Attacked

Sometimes celebrity can be painful.

The lead singer of the Grammy-winning Tejano group La Mafia suffered head wounds in an unprovoked attack outside a Houston club.

Band co-founder Armando Lichtenberger Jr. says Oscar De La Rosa and his driver were knocked unconscious by a man they didn't recognize in the attack early Monday. On Tuesday, Lichtenberger said De La Rosa was resting at his Houston home.

Houston CBS TV affiliate KHOU reports that the man approached the lead singer asking for a picture with the Tejano star.

According to the station, De La Rosa felt uncomfortable around the man and refused a picture. The man became belligerent and was thrown out of the bar.

As De La Rosa and his driver left the nightclub, the man came out of nowhere and sucker punched the driver, nearly knocking him out. He then punched De La Rosa repeatedly, according to Lichtenberger.

Lichtenberger described the man to KHOU as 6-foot-tall and “stocky.”

According to the station, De La Rosa was treated for several facial lacerations and possible damage to his right eye. He also lost  two teeth.

"He’s angry," Lichtenberger told KHOU. "He didn’t get to defend himself at all."

De La Rosa’s driver was also treated at a local hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Lichtenberg says La Mafia is considering whether to cancel any performances.

The band, which formed in 1980 in Houston, won a Grammy in 2006 for the album, "Nuevamente."
