Kristoffer Polaha: 'Where Hope Grows' has a message of faith

Stars McKaley Miller, Kristtofer Polaha and David DeSanctis on their new film about regaining purpose and meaning through an unlikely friendship

There’s a bunch of action blockbusters hitting theaters this summer, but one film, “Where Hope Grows,” aims to impact your heart. The stars of the film, David DeSantis, McKaley Miller and Kristtofer Polaha talked to FOX411 about faith, family and the pursuit of happiness.

FOX411: First, tell us a little about the film.

Kristtofer Polaha: It’s about faith. It’s about hope. It’s about redemption. It’s about second chances. We focus on our abilities and our disabilities. It’s a story about an unexpected friendship and it’s full of heart. It’s an amazing alternative to the rest out there.

FOX411: McKaley, do you think Hollywood has focused too much on action focused films rather than ones with family values like, “Where Hope Grows.”

McKaley Miller: I do think there needs to be more films like “Where Hope Grows,” because it has such a happy message and will make you feel so refreshed after you watch it.

Polaha: But the box office has to be reflective of that. So, if there’s a desire or a public conversation, “Why doesn’t Hollywood put out more good fare?” And when there is something people have to go to the theater and see it.

FOX411: David, this is your first feature film. Why did you want to become an actor?

David DeSanctis: Ever since I was 11 years old, I’ve always dreamed of acting but probably what made me want to act was watching “Barney and Friends” when I was younger.

FOX411: What do you hope the audience takes away from the movie?

Polaha: What we eat is what we are, so if you eat a lot of fast food, a lot of junk food, you’re eventually going to get overweight and you’re going to get sick. I think the same goes for what we put into our minds, through our eyes and ears – what we read, what music we listen to, the movies and the television that you watch. If you just keep putting in empty fattening dark stuff eventually that’s going to be reflective in your thoughts. I hope people take away from it that spirit of hope; the message which is one of ultimately faith and the fact that you have a choice; you can live hopefully or you can live pessimistically.

FOX411: David, your castmastes said your happiness is infectious.  What is your secret?

DeSanctis: Before the movie came to be, what made me happy was my family. When the movie came, it was McKaley Miller herself. The reason why McKaley Miller makes me so happy is she’s the only person I know facts, like that, from my mind. I remembered her birthday, so I can send her gifts like CDs and movies.
