Is Rude Behavior Becoming the Norm?

These days, it seems that public figures can't keep their opinions to themselves. Check out FOXNews.com's list of the biggest outbursts to take place and decide which is the rudest of them all.

  • Kanye_West
Kanye West has received an incredible amount of backlash for his recent rude outburst at the MTV Video Music Awards. The rapper, who had been swigging cognac on the red carpet, stole the microphone from teenage country music star Taylor Swift as she accepted a best female video award for "You Belong With Me." He then proceeded to assert that Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" was more deserving of the award, much to the dismay of the audience.  West later issued an apology via his blog and an appearance on “The Jay Leno Show” and said he would take some time off to reflect on what he had done. But the apology may be too little too late, as celebrities and fans alike slammed West for his outlandish behavior against the young singer.   (Photo: AP)

South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson ignited a media firestorm when he shouted “You lie!” at President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress.  Wilson later apologized to Obama for the outburst and the president accepted the apology. But the backlash against Wilson has endured. While many argue that the Representative was merely exercising his right to free speech, albeit in an inappropriate setting, he has been accused of everything from having little respect or regard for the president to being a racist.   (Photo: FNC)

Tennis powerhouse Serena Williams has been a veteran athlete now for nearly fifteen years. But the superstar shocked fans when she blew up at a line judge who called a foot fault against her during her semifinal match against Kim Clijsters last Saturday.    The profanity laced tirade – which threatened bodily harm -- cost her the match-winning point and a hefty $10,000 fine.    Williams later apologized but like West, some have argued that it not enough to rectify the situation. Despite her punishment, some critics have charged that Williams should face more penalties – even as much as her prize money from previous victories.    But Williams is hardly the first tennis star to lose her cool on the court. Indeed, tennis pros John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors became some of the sport’s most infamous players for their expletive-laced tirades against officials on the court.   (Photo: Reuters)

  • Perez_Hilton
Perhaps best known for his rude, outlandish and often shockingly critical comments, gossip blogger Perez Hilton took pageant judging to a new level when he slammed former Miss California Carrie Prejean as being a “dumb bitch” and called her answer to his question about same-sex marriage the “worst in history.”  Prejean – who had asserted her belief that marriage is between a woman and a man – later sued Hilton and the Miss California organization for what she claims is discrimination against her religious beliefs.  Prejean ultimately lost her crown, but pageant officials claim it had nothing to do with her answer and instead was a result of a series of violations of her contract. Hilton, for all his criticism of Prejean, was later slammed for the use of anti-gay slurs when he called Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.Am a “faggot” during an altercation in June.   (Photo: Reuters)

Controversial shock-jock Don Imus caused a firestorm when he referred to the Rutgers women Basketball players as "nappy-headed hos."  The comment ultimately ended up costing him his job at CBS, despite his on-air apology. Hours after they announced the cancellation of his show, Imus met with the team at the New Jersey governor’s mansion and afterward, the women said they had not called for Imus to be fired.   CBS was later criticized by some for being too hasty in their cancellation of the show. Imus later filed a wrongful suit against the network, which the parties later settled in court. A single player – Kia Vaughn – filed a suit against Imus, but later dropped it to focus on her studies.   (Photo: AP)

  • Michael_Richards
Comedian Michael Richards was once America’s most beloved goofy sidekick for his role as the kooky Cosmo Kramer in the mega-successful NBC show “Seinfeld.”   But a 2006 controversy sent his once-squeaky clean image into a downward spiral when a cell phone video captured him making racially derogatory comments at an audience member during one of his stand up shows. Richards was captured telling a man to “shut up” before screaming repeatedly “he’s a n**ger!”  Richards took to the Late Show with David Letterman to apologize, saying he was merely trying to deflect his heckler by making more outrageous comments than him, but that the decision backfired. He also called Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to apologize for the outburst.  Since then, he has been seen in only a few appearances, most notably on a2009 episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” with the “Seinfeld” cast.   (Photo: AP)

  • Fuzzy_Zoeller
Golfer Fuzzy Zoeller had a foot-in-mouth moment back in 1997 when he referred to Tiger Woods as "that little boy" and urged him not to order fried chicken or collard greens for the Champions Dinner next year. He defended himself by saying: "My comments were not intended to be racially derogatory, and I apologize for the fact that they were misconstrued in that fashion."   (Photo: Reuters)

  • Denis_Leary
In his book "Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid" Dennis Leary angered many people with his remarks on autism, in which he claimed: "There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks... to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't (care) what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you — your kid is not autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both." In an attempt to appease the backlash, Leary later argued that his critics had either not read the book or had “missed the sections” that made it clear that he supported  “rational” approaches to the diagnosis and even had “dear old friends” who had successfully raised an autistic child.   (Photo: AP)

  • Jamie Foxx
Everyone was pretty confused as to why actor Jamie Foxx unleashed such a brutal (and unprovoked) tirade against Disney princess Miley Cyrus earlier this year.    In a segment on his radio show, he made fun of the 16-year-old “Hannah Montana” star’s appearance, told her to "grow up," make a sex tape, and do drugs.    Jamie later defended his behavior by saying he's a comedian and doesn't really mean the things he says.    All in all, it seems the tirade did little to hurt the comedian, who is still as popular as ever. • Natalie Maines
As the frontwoman of the ultra-successful country group, The Dixie Chicks, Natalie Maines ignited a massive firestorm when, on the eve of the Iraq invasion in 2003, she said the group was “ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.”  The comment cost the group thousands of fans and resulted in a boycott of their songs on several country music stations and even the receipt of death threats from angry Americans.  Maines later issued an apology to President Bush but then retracted it a few years later. The group later released a “comeback” album of sorts, which earned them five Grammys including the coveted album of the year award.   (Photo: AP)
