“Instructions Not Included” has continued its successful run in the box office by becoming the top-grossing Spanish-language film of all time in the North American box office.
The movie, by Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez, has grossed $38.6 million to date – surpassing previous record holder “Pan’s Labyrinth,” directed by fellow countryman Guillermo Del Toro. “Pan’s Labyrinth,” which premiered in 2006, grossed $37.6 million in the North American box office.
“Instructions Not Included” – which also stars Derbez as Valentin – also has become the fourth top-grossing foreign-language film of all time domestically after “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, “Life Is Beautiful” and “Hero.” The film was released in the U.S. by the Lionsgate-Televisa joint venture Pantelion Films.

Last weekend, it broke records in the Mexican box office, raking in about $11.6 million in its first week, making it the biggest weekend ever for a local production.
The film, which tells the story of Valentin (Derbez) and his newfound daughter Maggie (played by Loreto Peralta), currently sits eight in its fifth week on U.S. box office ahead of “We’re The Millers” and Lee Daniel’s “The Butler.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pantelion’s CEO Paul Presburger said: “The film’s success reaffirms our belief that there is a large audience in the U.S. with an appetite for commercial films with Latino characters and themes.”
