How Much Do You Really Know About ‘Gangnam Style’ Singer Psy?

Singer Psy might seem like an overnight success story. His hit single "Gangnam Style" went viral and now everyone knows that it means to "dress classy and dance cheesy." Yet, his big break didn't come easy — the Korean-pop singing sensation known for his satirical style has been toiling in the music industry for 12 years. Psy, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, was born into a traditional South Korean family. He came to the United States to attend business school but dropped out to pursue his music career. He went on to enroll at the prestigious Berklee College of Music before returning to South Korea to complete his mandatory military service. In 2006, Psy married his girlfriend of three and a half years, Yoo Hye Yeon. With the most-liked video on YouTube in history and having kicked Taylor Swift's new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" off the top of the digital sales charts, Psy has become an international celebrity. And at 34 years old, he couldn't be more grateful. "This is my heyday," Psy said during a recent press conference. "In 12 years since I debuted as a singer ... This is just unbelievable, and I'm thankful for everything." It's not often that a K-pop song reaches No. 1 in America, but Psy's determined to make it happen. He told a news conference in Seoul that "If I do become number one on Billboard, I'd dare to dance half-naked in front of a large crowd of people." Stay tuned.
