Hope Solo, Jerramy Stevens marry following assault accusation, reports say

Just one day after former Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his bride to be Hope Solo, the two were married, according to various media reports.

Stevens was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence assault early Monday, but he was not charged and was later released. The two were married Tuesday night, though the case is still under investigation, and Stevens could later be charged if police find more evidence.

The U.S. women’s soccer goalkeeper, 31, had been dating Stevens, 33, for about two months when to two applied for a marriage license Nov. 8, and very few details have come out about the somewhat impromptu wedding ceremony. People magazine reported the two athletes were arguing over whether to wed in Florida or Washington State.

However it seems they came to an agreement. Sportsradio 950 AM and 102.9 FM radio host Dave Mahler confirmed news of the wedding late Tuesday, and Solo’s teammate Jillian Loyden also sent a tweet implying she may have been at the wedding: “Happy to witness such an amazing celebration of real love #selflesslove  #fewandfarbetween.”

But the Twitterverse was not filled with positive reactions to the Solo-Stevens wedding news. Some fans worried that the marriage would send the wrong message to Solo’s young, female fan base.

“It's sad that anybody married Jerramy Stevens, much less someone who has as much influence with young women as Hope Solo does,” one user posted.

Another user added: “Hope Solo just shows again professional athletes aren't role models. #respectyourself.”
