“Fresh Off the Boat” creator and celebrity chef Eddie Huang doesn’t watch the ABC sitcom based on his memoir.
“I stopped watching it last year, so I haven’t seen it,” he told Page Six at a Center for Communication event at the Pierre.
Last month, the network ordered a full 22-episode second season, but Huang’s been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the way the series turned out.
“I’m glad it’s doing well. I’m happy for everybody,” he explained. “I’m just busy. I haven’t even seen ‘Homeland’ this year, and I like ‘Homeland’ a lot more.”
He said of the show, “The original ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ was on Vice. So then, you know, the name got sold to ABC, and then they did the sitcom.”
What’s keeping him busy instead is an updated version of his online show “Huang’s World,” which will expand to one-hour episodes on Vice’s new cable channel, Viceland. On the show, he travels to different places and samples food.
“We went all over Sicily and really tried to understand Sicily as a migrant country through its food,” Huang said of one episode, adding that the mayor of Palermo will guest star. Cam’ron is doing the theme song.
