Some heated Super Bowl viewers took issue with Adam Levine's bare chest during Maroon 5's halftime show performance. In fact, dozens were so bothered by the singer's exposure – and his nipples, in particular – that they decided to flood the Federal Communications Commission's complaint inbox.

In total, the FCC received 58 messages about Levine's attire (or lack thereof) as he sang "Moves Like Jagger" at the February event, according to Deadspin, which obtained the information through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The publication, which sifted through roughly 100 documents that rolled in throughout the duration of the game, shared some of the spectators most fiery complaints.

"Adam Levine without a shirt on for part of the Super Bowl halftime show was obscene. No one could possibly believe that had an artistic value," one Hawaii resident wrote, according to Deadspin. "His overly sexual lyrics combined with being half naked was not just tasteless it was obscene, offensive, and indecent. A flagrant exhibition of his body and sexuality and that has nothing to do with sports.

"I was horrified to see Adam Levine take off his shirt and expose his nipples. It is absolutely not the place for nipples on national tv while children are watching. It is morally reprehensible and I am appalled," a Kentucky native commented.

"I saw two naked nipples on Adam Levine's chest after he removed his shirt. I was offended. Nake nipples should not be shown during primetime broadcasts," a third person from North Carolina argued.

Levine's naked, tattooed torso drew a lot of attention on social media during the performance as well.

At the time, many people compared the ink to a Chipotle bag and shared side-by-side images to prove it. The fast-food chain even retweeted one of the Levine-related memes.

And many people called Levine's shirtless look a "double-standard," referring to Janet Jackson's 2004 "wardrobe malfunction." After what was considered "indecent exposure" during the 2004 show, CBS was hit with a $500,000 fine, CBS News previously reported.

"The FCC chose to levy a $500,00 fine against CBS for Janet Jackson's breast/nipple exposure and the same thing needs to happen in this case, lest you appear to display hypocrisy and double standards," another person stated, in part, in a complaint to the FCC, per Deadline.

Levine never responded to any of the backlash surrounding his performance, but he did later explain in an Instagram the meaning behind one of the light displays during his stadium performance.

"When we accepted the responsibility to perform at the SBHTS, I took out my pen and just wrote," Levine captioned the image. "Some of the words that came to me in that moment eventually made their way onto the incredible lanterns that flew high and low tonight. We thank the universe for this historic opportunity to play on the world’s biggest stage. We thank our fans for making our dreams possible. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. One Love."
