Conrad Murray Defense Case Nearing a Close in Manslaughter Trial

An addiction specialist is testifying in Los Angeles for the doctor charged in Michael Jackson's death.

Dr. Robert Waldman is one of two experts who defense attorneys planned to call during the final stage of Dr. Conrad Murray's defense case. He is testifying about the effects of addiction, but has not yet directly addressed the Jackson case.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson's June 2009 death.

The doctor's attorney also plans to call a leading expert in the anesthetic propofol, which Jackson was receiving from Murray as a sleep aid. Authorities contend the doctor gave Jackson a fatal dose, but Murray's attorneys claim the singer gave himself the lethal dose when his doctor left the room.

Closing arguments are expected next week.
