Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen weighed in on the Ottawa shootings on Twitter with what some saw as a tasteless joke.

Her critics were swift to condemn her comments.

And while many supported her stance, Teigen went after her detractors, refusing to call what she had written a joke.

She also refused to apologize, and tried to further clarify her original statement.

But some in the Twitterverse weren't having it.

Teigen finally retreated from the fray.
