Chris Pratt opened up about his recent biblical fast and how his Christian faith continues to help him navigate the “lion’s den” that is Hollywood fame.
The 39-year-old star appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to promote the release of his movie “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” where the host asked him about his recent observation of the 21-day fast inspired by the Biblical Prophet Daniel.
“I was inspired by my pastor, we do it. It’s kind of like our Lent, you know, we give something up,” the “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor said. “So for 21 days I had no meat, no sugar, no alcohol… and it was actually amazing. It was really cool.”

Pratt noted that alcohol was the hardest thing to give up, joking with the crowd that they know how much he likes to drink. Colbert then asked if there was any component to the fast of going into a lion’s den, as Daniel does in the story.
“Sick cardio. Lion fighting is sick cardio,” Pratt joked.
However, Colbert got a bit more serious asking the star if he feels like he’s ever metaphorically in a lion’s den thanks to his immense fame.

The star answered the question with a quote from pastor Christine Caine, who he posted about on Twitter afterward having not been able to recall her name on the show.
“If the spotlight that’s shining on you is brighter than the light that comes from within you, it’ll kill you,” he said. “And you see it all the time. People in our position, people that are actors, you see it a lot. It’s a real bright spotlight.”
He continued: “Sometimes just having a self to share is what kills you because there's nothing left. So you have to have a light to share. A light that's just a bright as any of these lights. Then you can survive and then you can save some of yourself and not give it all away.”

In addition to "The Lego Movie 2" and the upcoming "Avengers: Endgame," Pratt's personal life has a lot going on as well. He recently announced that he's engaged to Katherine Schwarzenegger after dating for several months.
