The space shuttle Endeavour is currently being transported to its final resting place in California, and spectators from across the Golden State have lined up to catch a glimpse of the decommissioned orbiter. But while Endeavour's days in outer space are over, we're certain that plenty of its admirers are being inspired to reach for the stars. In fact, we can think of a few celebrities who have publicly declared their dreams of conquering the final frontier — and in all likelihood, many of them are anxiously awaiting the retired shuttle's arrival at the California Science Center. Here's a look at some celebrities who are more than ready to blast off.
- Sir Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, announced plans for Virgin Galactic Airlines in 2004. The project aims to provide paying passengers with sub-orbital space "tours," and the price tag is set at $200,000 for a two hour flight. - Apparently, Charlize Theron's role in "Prometheus" has piqued her interest in space travel. The 36-year-old actress has expressed a desire to board Branson's Virgin Galactic flight, saying, ''I'm totally open to going up in space." Theron then added, "I'm sure it would be scary, but hopefully I'd just be going to see what it looks like, so I'd be coming back.
