Bob Barker pays nearly $1 million to rescue 3 elephants

Retired American game show host Bob Barker, left, waves to onlookers as he meets Lucy the elephant at the Valley Zoo in Edmonton, Calif., in this September 17, 2009 file photo.

Bob Barker isn’t done giving out big money prizes.

The former “Price is Right” host paid nearly $1 million to transport three former zoo elephants from Canada to the comforts of the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), in California, according to the Sacramento Bee.

An emotional Barker headed to PAWS on Monday to welcome the elephants.

“I had a lump in my throat, I had tears in my eyes. I’ve discovered that the older I get, the easier I cry,” he told FOX 40. “The ones that were crying the most were those miserable zoo keepers in Toronto.”

And the longtime animal lover said he intends to keep doling out charity as he gets older.

“I had a job that I loved... I was very well paid for it, and now I’m spending my money,” the 89-year-old said. “I intend to die broke.”
