If you'll allow us to paraphrase the theme song from "Mr. Ed," a horse is a horse, of course, of course … unless that horse is a famous Budweiser Clydesdale.
Late last month on January 26, the folks at Anheuser-Busch welcomed a brand-new addition to the iconic ranks of the Budweiser mascots: a newborn foal named Mac.
According to the folks at Anheuser-Busch, Mac's name itself is a tribute to the legacy of the Clydesdales, which they describe as "the most macro of all icons." Mac is also expected to grow into a fine Budweiser spokesperson (or spokeshorse) thanks to his beautiful-colored coat and mane — but that doesn't mean we'll be seeing him in the company's Super Bowl spots anytime soon.
"There isn't any reason in the world that Mac shouldn't make our Clydesdale hitches in another four years," remarks Budweiser's Clydesdale caretaker John Soto.
In the meantime, Mac is learning the ropes of his prestigious position at Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville, Missouri, where he currently resides with his mother Jules.
Budweiser's long tradition of using Clydesdales as mascots began in 1933, when former Anheuser-Busch president August A. Busch, Jr. was gifted with a Clydesdale to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. The horses themselves only started appearing in Super Bowl commercials in the mid-1980s.
Warm Springs Ranch also promises to post periodic updates on Mac via Twitter and Facebook, where we wholeheartedly expect his adorable-ness to break the internet.
In fact, we think Washington Post reporter Mark Berman summed up our exact feelings in a recent post he shared to Twitter:
