Angelina Jolie cites her ‘family situation’ as to why she hasn’t directed lately: ‘Really the truth of it’

The 'Maleficent' star has been entrenched in a bitter divorce with Brad Pitt

Angelina Jolie, who has yet to finalize her ongoing divorce from Brad Pitt, believes her family drama has gotten in the way of her career aspirations.

"I love directing, but I had a change in my family situation that’s not made it possible for me to direct for a few years," Jolie, 45, recently told Entertainment Weekly.

The "Maleficent" actress said there just hasn’t been enough time to commit to her dream of directing. Therefore, the mother of six has continued to take acting jobs to keep up with the demands of both Hollywood and family life.

"I needed to just do shorter jobs and be home more, so I kind of went back to doing a few acting jobs. That’s really the truth of it," she said.

Jolie recently opened up about parenting during the pandemic, admitting in February, "I feel like I’m lacking in all the skills to be a traditional stay-at-home mom."

Jolie and 57-year-old Pitt ended their two-year marriage in September. While their divorce has yet to be finalized, they were both legally declared single in 2019.

Since then they have continued to negotiate their divorce as their custody battle over their six children rages on. They are parents to Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

While court documents in their case are private and sealed, Jolie’s accusations over Pitt’s alleged abusive behavior leaked to The Blast in March.

As Page Six exclusively reported at the time, a source close to Pitt said: "Brad is heartbroken that Angelina has gone that route. There’s a lot of emotion left after their marriage."

We were told at the time that Pitt’s camp believed that the leak was "calculated to sway opinion ahead of the conclusion of their trial."

Pitt notoriously got into an altercation with his family aboard a private jet in 2016, though he was never charged. Pitt admitted to yelling at his kids during the incident but that he never raised a hand to them in 2016.

Pitt has also never been arrested or charged for any offense during his marriage to Jolie, nor were there any police reports made about any allegations of spousal abuse.

Meanwhile, Jolie seems to be cleansing herself from Pitt’s presence in her life. Page Six reported last month that she sold off a painting by Winston Churchill gifted to her by Pitt for $11.5 million.

Pitt, on the other hand, has been busy filming his new movie "Bullet Train" alongside Sandra Bullock and Joey King.
