‘American Pickers’ on show’s success: ‘We don’t see it slowing down anytime soon’

As History Channel’s “American Pickers” head into their seventh season, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, who have known each other since childhood, still occasionally feel awed by their celebrity status.
“It’s been really surreal the whole thing that has happened,” Wolfe told FOX411 of the show’s success. “Now, we’re six years into it, and it’s kind of settled in, but now when someone comes up [to us] -- a musician or something-- that is a huge fan of the show and we’ve been fans of him forever, it’s kind of odd that he even knows who we are.”
Fritz recalled that the two old friends teamed up because they kept running into each other in their very specialized professional world.

“We’d see each other at different places and we were, you know, picking and stuff, and then all of a sudden we maybe bought a few things from each other and stuff and [it turned into] ‘Hey, why don’t you give me five bucks and you can ride along with me,” Fritz reminisced.
The rest is History—the History channel’s series, that is.
This season, the reality stars promised the show would bring more unique items as they travel around to track down antiques.

“Dan Auerbach is going to be on the show May 6 in our starting of our new season, and we’re honored to have him on, and he is going to be buying a cool guitar and amp with us and we were lucky to find it for him,” Wolfe said.
He added that he is proud that the show teaches viewers about American history.

“It’s one of the few shows on History that you are kind of learning about history,” Wolfe quipped. Fritz chimed in, “We learn all the time too.”
The friends added they don’t see the show slowing down in the near future.
“We’re in our seventh season now, so we’re obviously doing something right,” Wolfe said. “We don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. We’re trying to buy new things this season and just mix it up a little bit.”

One of their favorite parts of their picks is getting to see unique made-in-America items.
“The landscape of this country has obviously changed with manufacturing,” Wolfe said. “A lot of things that were made here aren’t anymore, so it’s kind of walking down memory lane for the viewer and us in regards to, you know, what used to be manufactured here. Frank and I are both car guys—transportation guys—we’ve always appreciated a past as far as the automotive industry, the motorcycle industry, so, we feel proud with every story that we tell.”
Fritz added that he loves when the duo comes across old items that are still in-use today.

“We’re such a disposable [culture] that being able to see things that withstood the test of time and people are still using them, tables, or chairs or cubby holes, it’s just kind of nice,” Fritz said.
As a result, Fritz admitted he holds on to most of the unique antiques he finds. Wolfe too said he tries not to sell his favorite finds.
“I sell very few things,” Wolfe admitted. “I mean obviously we’ve got two stores to fill, [but] a lot of the special items, I am keeping for myself.”
