Roll the "it's happening" gif and queue the soundtrack to Back to the Future because it appears the DeLorean DMC-12 is finally coming back. You can now fill out what the DeLorean Motor Company is calling a "2017 DeLorean Pre-Order Interest Application" online in order to throw your name into the hat. Exact details on the car are still scarce, but a blog post from the company reveals that DMC is confident it can deliver.
DMC isn't calling this a pre-order, since it doesn't yet know how much the new car will cost. The blog post explains that they're still figuring out where to source the engine, ECM, as well as some interior parts. As we previously reported, these new cars will be low-volume recreations that look like the original, but meet current emissions regulations. That means a modern, EPA and CARB-compliant engine. Cross your fingers for a V8 option.

The new DeLoreans are being built thanks to a law passed in December of 2015. It allows small companies to produce limited numbers of replica vehicles that resemble vehicles produced 25 years ago or more. There are still hurdles to climb, like sourcing an engine, but indications look promising.
The "interest application" has a number of standard fields like name and address, but DMC is also asking if potential buyers are current or former DeLorean owners and if they would prefer an automatic or manual. Because there is no price, the application is non-binding.
