Ram Trucks is Doblo-ing down on European style vans.
The Chrysler brand confirmed Monday that it will offer a version of the Fiat Doblo compact van in the U.S. for the 2015 model year called the ProMaster City.
Ram recently introduced a lineup of full-size ProMaster vans based on the Fiat Ducato, which features Italian style on front-wheel-drive chassis powered by gasoline and diesel engines.
There’s no word on specifications for the ProMaster City just yet, but the Doblo is available overseas with a variety of four-cylinder gasoline, CNG and diesel engines.
The new small van will compete directly with the Ford Transit Connect, Nissan NV200 and the Chevy Express due next fall, which itself is a rebadged NV2000.
According to Ram’s consumer website, two versions of the ProMaster City will be offered. A teaser image of a pair of vans hidden under sheets suggests that they could be the same commercial panel van and windowed passenger models the Doblo currently comes in, but we’ll have to wait until the wraps come off next year to find out for sure.
