The Shelby GT500 isn’t the only new Mustang debuting this year.

Ford has revealed its 2019 Mustang NHRA Funny Car, which is its first all-new drag racer in a decade.

Changes to the shape of the body are evident on the top and sides, and driver Bob Tasca III says it’s structurally stronger than the old car to prevent warping, which can disrupt its aerodynamics. It also features a new front-end graphic with a faux split grille.

“There were some things we tried that would have taken it further away from the look of the Mustang, but we didn’t get enough performance from it,” Tasca told NHRA.com.

“So, unless it was something that really enhanced the aero… we just wanted to stay as true to the look of the Mustang as we possibly could.”

Tasca is getting is first shot at the car at a test in Phoenix on Thursday, while he and Tim Wilkerson will debut the car in competition when the season kicks off in Pomona, Calif., next week.
