- Lamborghini apparently had such a tough time selling the three $3.9 million Veneno supercars it built this year that it's building nine more, chopping their tops off and selling them for $5.3 million. The bonkers Veneno Roadster is powered by a 740 hp V12, has a 220 mph top speed and that's with the roof open, because it doesn't come with one, it's always open. - Swedish sports car company Koenigsegg has announced plans for a 1,400 hp coupe that weighs just 1,400 kg. The mathematically named one:1 will feature a carbon fiber chassis and twin-turbocharged V8 capable of propelling it to 250 mph in 20 seconds and on to a theoretical top speed of 280 mph, which would make it the fastest car in the world. Ever. Only six will be produced. Pricing has not been announced, but the Koenigsegg Agera that it is based on starts at approximately $1.5 million. - A homage to the past and a possible look at the future, the Audi Sport quattro Concept celebrates the 30th birthday of the automaker's ground-breaking Sport quattro rally car with a high-tech update. Under it's stubby, but powerful-looking upright form is an all-wheel-drive hybrid drivetrain powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 and electric motor that puts out a combined 690 hp, can accelerate the car to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, a top speed of 189 mph and operate in all-electric mode around town.read more
- The name says it all. With a boost in power to 597 hp, the 458 Speciale's screaming V8 can accelerate it to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and 124 mph in 9.1 seconds. Movable flaps at the front and rear adjust aerodynamic efficiency on the fly, while a Side Slip Angle Control system helps control the attitude of the 458 Speciale allowing it to achieve a race car like 1.33 g in cornering maneuvers. - Built to celebrate the company's 100th birthday, the CC100 Speedster echoes Aston Martin's classic racing cars while offering a peek at its future design. Powered by a 600 hp V12, the carbon fiber two-seater is said to embody the soul of the British automaker through the embrace of its sporting heritage and adventurous spirit and ends up looking very cool in the process. With it's 3.8-liter 560 hp flat-six engine, the latest 911 Turbo S can hit 60 mph in 2.9 seconds thanks to a 7-speed twin clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive, while four-wheel-steering should help the widebody ride be a terror in the twisties, too. - To celebrate what it calls "100 years of innovation in half the time" Lamborghini has unveiled a special edition of the Aventador with a boost in power to 720 hp, aggressive bodywork that improves downforce without increasing drag, and a Giallo Maggio (Yellow May, in Italian) paint job that references the automaker's most popular color and the month of its founding in 1963. Just 100 will be built. Why not 50? We guess the company likes green, too.read more
- The cat's out of the bag for the McLaren P1, and its ready to scurry in a hurry. The automaker has confirmed that the $1.15 million hypercar will have a 903 hp hybrid powertrain, comprised of a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 and electric motor, that will be good for a 0-60 mph sprint of less than 3 seconds and a limited top speed of 217.5 mph. - The 2014 Chevrolet SS sports sedan is hot, but how cool is this? The Holden VF Ute is an El Camino-style version of the 415 hp V8-powered SS that's sold in Australia, where these types of vehicles remain popular. Before it went through bankruptcy, GM was planning to sell a version of this pickup "car" in the U.S. as the Pontiac G8 Sport Truck, but nixed the idea when that brand went out of business. - The Dart is getting sharper. Chrysler's Mopar division is building a special edition of the compact upgraded for style and speed. The 1.4-liter tubocharged, six-speed manual model gets a performance exhaust system, lowered and stiffened suspension, unique wheels with low-profile tires and a body kit with rear spoiler and ground effects along with a Mopar Blue stripe on black paint job. Inside, a blue leather driver's seat stands out from the black chairs for passengers, reminding them who's boss. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the Mopar Dart makes its debut at the Chicago Auto Show of February 7th and just 500 of them will be built. - It gets 116 mpg, but you'll have to fill it up along the way. Actually, plug it in. The battery-powered Fiat 500e has a range of 87 miles per charge, and a "fuel" economy rating equivalent to 108 mpg highway, 122 mpg city and 116 mpg combined. No price yet, but it goes on sale in California only this spring.read more
- Talk about a hair-raising experience. Bentley's latest drop-top has a 202 mph top speed (but a mere 197 mph top down) courtesy of a 616 hp twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder engine that makes it the fastest four-seat convertible in the world. It also comes in purple, just in case the cops don't hear you coming. As for the price, add three zeros to that top speed and you're still not there. Figure over $215,000. - Cadillac has unveiled the first image of its upcoming Chevy Volt-based plug-in hybrid ELR. The shaded profile shot shows lines inspired by the Converj concept of 2009, which was a precursor to this production car. Details are still fully under wraps, but the ELR is expected to use an updated version of the Volt's extended-range electric powertrain, likely offering either more performance or range or both. - GM's fully redesigned full-size pickups have been unveiled. The Silverado and Sierra sporting new sheetmetal, and an all-new engine lineup that includes a 6.2-liter V8 GM says will be the most capable in class. - Lose two doors, gain one number. When the next BMW 3-Series-based coupe comes out next year it will be called the 4-Series to better differentiate the model. This concept is a close look at what the production car will look like. Longer and lower than the current coupe, it gets more dramatic front end styling than the sedan, LED headlights, front fender vents and bulging rear fenders. - Remaking "Smokey and the Bandit" would be a really bad idea, but this we can live with. Custom car shop Trans Am Depot has teamed up with Hurst to turn the new Chevrolet Camaro into a modern iteration of the famous "Screaming Chicken" Pontiac Trans Am of the 1970's. It features a custom body kit with split grille, hood scoop and T-Tops, along with a fully redressed interior with Hurst shifter, Katzkin leather upholstery and retro gauges. The suspension is lowered and fitted with Eibach springs, while the Camaro's V8 can be upgraded with a choice of twin-turbos or a supercharger. Buford T. - He is the quickest man in history, and it is one of the world’s quickest cars. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has teamed up with Nissan to create the Bolt-performance GT-R. The all-wheel-drive 542 hp coupe is capable of sprinting to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. The one of a kind gold-painted and trimmed supercar features Bolt’s signature and will be auctioned on eBay to support the Usain Bolt Foundation. As the automaker’s new “Director of Excitement,” Bolt is also helping to develop a run of limited-edition GT-Rs tweaked to his liking that will be on sale soon. - Sure, it may look 55 years old, but that’s only because it is. The Caterham Superlight R600 is the British automaker’s latest and fastest take yet on the Lotus Seven sports car of 1957. Weighing less than some motorcycles at just over 1,100 pounds, the low-slung roadster is powered by a 275 hp supercharged Ford four-cylinder engine and can hit 60 mph in a supercar quick 2.88 seconds or less on its way to a top speed of over 150 mph, the tarmac passing by so closely you can file your nails on it. - This may be the world's first wool supercar. The Peugeot Onyx concept is an aluminum, carbon fiber, PolyMethyl MethAcrylate and copper sports car powered by a an all-wheel-drive turbodiesel hybrid powertrain. It's interior is trimmed in wool felt and has a dashboard made from recycled newspapers compressed into a hard material. Try not to read the stories as you drive - they are reportedly visible. - Because a 202 mph pony car with 662 hp isn't enough, Shelby American is in the process of turning the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 into a Super Snake. The new car is set to debut in August, and details on specs are still under wraps, but the renowned speed shop has released photos of the build in progress. The last Super Snake, based on the 550 hp 5.4 liter V8 in the 2012 GT500, put out 800 hp, while the limited edition Shelby 1000 cranks out 950 hp on pump gas from the same engine.
