Ford F-150 police pickup hits the beat
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Ford’s military grade aluminum F-150 is getting into civilian security.
The automaker has unveiled its new F-150 Special Service Vehicle, a custom truck outfitted with police and emergency services in mind.

{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}It gets a steering column-mounted transmission selector, and deleted console and center seat to open up space for gear, plus a high-output 240-amp alternator to help keep any added electronic equipment running, even when the truck is just sitting around on a stakeout.
Agencies can choose between a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 or a 5.0-liter V8 -- so the five-o can roll in a 5.0 -- and 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains. SuperCrew and SuperCab versions will be offered, both with the carpet and rear seat upholstery replaced with easy clean vinyl, which should keep the weekend overnight motor pool crew happy.
As is typically the case with fleet-only vehicles, exact pricing has not been revealed. But the F-150 SSV is based on the F-150 XL, which has a starting price of around $32,000 for a V8-powered SuperCrew.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The F-150 SSV joins a growing list of law enforcement-focused vehicles from Ford that includes an Expedition Special Service Vehicle, Special Service Police Sedan, Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle, Police Interceptor Sedan, and Police Interceptor Utility. Ford recently filed a trademark application for Police Responder, covering automobiles and sport utility vehicles, so reinforcements could be on the way.
