The owner of a pristine E-Type Jaguar crashed his beloved car moments after getting behind the wheel following years of work restoring it to its original glory.

The 1973 V12 Jag, often voted the most beautiful car ever made, can sell for upwards of $140,000.

It came off the road and hit a lamppost, crumpling its left headlight, bonnet and grille.

PC Ali McKenzie, who dealt with the crash, said: “The car had recently been fully restored with a painstaking attention to detail, and had only been out on the road briefly before the accident.”

The unnamed owner escaped unhurt from the crash in Ely, Cambs.

Police posted images of the pranged red Jag. Local Giles Saunders said: “The guy must be gutted. At least it’s repairable.”
