The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are the safest pickups ever tested according to the latest round of NHTSA crash tests.
Both of the all-new trucks received perfect five-star ratings across the board, the first to do so since the crash testing procedures were updated in 2011.
The most recent trucks from GM’s top competitors Ford and Chrysler each carry overall four-star ratings. GM submitted its largest crew cab models for the test.
Along with an extensive use of high-strength steel in their fully-boxed frames, the pickups feature a list of available high-tech safety equipment that includes lane departure warning, rear view camera, forward collision alert and a safety seat first seen on GM’s Cadillac cars that vibrates to warn the driver when one of the other systems is triggered.
