Gotta have a new car to block for the truck? A speedy car?
A 1978 Pontiac Trans Am once owned by Burt Reynolds will be rumbling across the block at the Mecum Auctions event in Kissimmee, Fla., in January. It’s not one of the cars featured in the “Smokey and The Bandit” films, but was Reynolds’ personal car from 2005-2009.
The Starlight Black Special Edition T/A is currently owned by the Wellborn Musclecar Museum and equipped with the stock 6.6-liter V8, Turbo 3-speed automatic transmission, and WS6 performance package and a “screaming chicken” hood decal. Reynolds added front disc brakes, air conditioning, T-tops and a CB radio, of course. See, even The Bandit himself wants to live the full fantasy.

According to the Hagerty Price Guide, a car like this in top condition is worth over $50,000 without the celebrity connection, and with just 15,881 miles on the odometer the bidding is likely to go higher than that before the hammer goes down.
If you’re planning to go for it, and want to get totally into the event, Reynolds is selling a treasure trove of his movie memorabilia at separate event in December that includes the actual western shirt he wore in “Smokey and the Bandit II.”
There’s plenty of time left to grow the moustache to go along with it.
