AM General has announced plans to resurrect the civilian version of the venerable HUMVEE, which was last sold to the public by General Motors as the Hummer H1 back in 2006.
No sign and drive offer, the HUMVEE C-Series is being made available in kit form this time around and some assembly is definitely required.

For $59,995 you’ll get the all of the chassis and body components necessary to build your own vehicle but need to add your own engine, transmission and wheels. Like all kit cars, the various legalities of getting it registered for on road use in your state are up to you to sort out.
Aimed at serious off-roaders rather than the Hollywood crowd, the four-seat trucks come in soft-top versions only and include vinyl roofs and doors, along with a stripped down interior finished in digital camouflage. Air conditioning, however, is standard equipment.
Offered in khaki, green or sand paint jobs, options include a central tire inflation system with beadlock wheels and tires, Eaton ELocker electronic front and rear differentials, 12,000 lb Warn winch, heated windshields and extra underbody protection.
Fully loaded, a C-Series will run you about $78G without the drivetrain, but it does come with a hitch…in addition to the one for the trailer.
AM General is currently accepting orders with refundable deposits of $5,995, but will only put the C-Series into production if it gets enough of them between now and April 30th, 2013 to make the program viable.
Think if it as the most kick-butt Kickstarter-style campaign yet.
