Ford is ready to gear up the police.
It’s giving officers 10 gears, to be exact, packaged inside the 2018 Expedition SUV and 2018 F-150 pickup that are being added to its Special Service Vehicle fleet.

The updated trucks feature Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission that’s operated by a space-saving column-mounted shifter. It comes with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, and is also available with a 5.0-liter V8 in the F-150. All models are stop-start equipped and have 240-watt alternators to handle aftermarket accessories.
The new aluminum-bodied Expedition also gets an electronic limited slip rear differential, while the rear seats in both trucks are upholstered in easy-clean vinyl for queasy culprits.
Better get used to what they look like now, because they’ll start showing up in your rearview mirror this fall.
