Spanish emergency services say 15 people have been injured in a fire at an industrial waste treatment factory in a town close to Madrid.

The service said people were evacuated from schools and workplaces in a radius of 500 meters (yards) around the affected factory in Arganda.

The fire caused several explosions and sent a dense column of smoke into the air.

The emergency services said three of the 15 injured are in serious condition.

There were no immediate details on the cause of the fire.
