Israel says it is looking into a Russian statement that recognizes its claim to Jerusalem while also recognizing the Palestinian claim.

Russia's Foreign Ministry said Thursday it reaffirms "the status of east Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state...we regard west Jerusalem as the capital of the state of Israel."

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said Israel is "studying" the statement, the practical implications of which are unclear.

Israel captured east Jerusalem along with the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in the 1967 war. Nearly all embassies are located in Tel Aviv because their countries refrain from recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital until its status is resolved in future peace talks.
