HARARE (AFP) – Pakistan signalled their intention to give opportunities to new players on their tour of Zimbabwe as they handed an international debut to batsman Sohaib Maqsood in the first of two Twenty20 matches on Friday.
The 26-year-old was one of the leading run-scorers in Pakistan's domestic one-day competition last season, and was picked to bat in the middle order of a strong side.
Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor won the toss and elected to bowl in the first match of a three-week tour, which also comprises three one-day internationals and two Tests.
Batsman Timycen Maruma was preferred to Sikandar Raza Butt by the home selectors, while seamer Shingirai Masakadza returned to the fray after missing out on selection when Zimbabwe hosted India recently.
