Canada has lifted its economic sanctions on Libya now that the Qaddafi regime no longer holds power.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Thursday that Canada is repealing economic sanctions it imposed in February in support of the Libyan people and the rebel-led National Transitional Council.
The sanctions being lifted Thursday restricted Canadians from dealing with the Libyan government.
Canada recognizes the NTC as the legitimate representatives of the Libyan people until a new government is elected.
Leaders and envoys from 60 nations and world bodies such as the United Nations and NATO are meeting in Paris for talks with the NTC to map out Libya's future.
