NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Authorities say a man accused of taking hostages and opening fire in a crowded Tennessee beauty salon is dead after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the suspect as 51-year-old Steven Hopwood. The TBI says a woman had taken out an order of protection against Hopwood but hasn't said if she was at the Lewisburg salon Monday.
The TBI said in a news release that a Marshall County sheriff's deputy was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with Hopwood. The deputy's injuries were not life-threatening.
The TBI said Hopwood also fired at other deputies but hit none. Afterward, a Lewisburg Police Department SWAT team entered the salon and found Hopwood dead inside with several unharmed hostages.
The TBI says Hopwood was white. The TBI didn't identify any officer involved.
