Bald eagle found dead in Oregon with its talons cut off

Authorities in Oregon are trying to learn who killed a bald eagle found dead Monday with its talons removed, OregonLive.com reported.

There were no signs of other injuries to the bird. The bird, which is protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, was reportedly discarded at the mouth of the Winchuch River on the southern Oregon coast.

The penalty could be jail time and a fine of $100,000 or more. It is illegal to take a bald eagle’s talons without a permit.
